Amazon Considers $9 Billion Acquisition of Globalstar for Project Kuiper Satellite Spectrum

Amazon is in talks to acquire satellite communications company Globalstar in a deal valued at approximately $9 billion, aimed at accelerating its Project Kuiper internet service to compete with SpaceX's Starlink. The acquisition would give Amazon access to Globalstar's globally harmonized licensed spectrum and ground infrastructure, which analysts view as more valuable than the satellite hardware itself. Negotiations are complicated by Apple's 20% stake in Globalstar, which currently uses 85% of the company's network capacity for iPhone satellite SOS services.
